am excited to show you this project I've been working on for the last
two weeks. In preparation for the upcoming Indie Shop on November 5th in
Torrance California, I've interviewed all the vendors that will be
there. From today until the event, I will be posting an interview a day
so that you can get to know each and every one of the faces behind the
brands.
Now.... TO THE INTERVIEW!!!
Today I present to you Joy Lacquer!
What is your name and where are you from?
Joy Lacher (pronounced Locker) and I live in Seattle Washington.
When did you start Joy Lacquer?
I started Joy Lacquer in May of 2015
What is meaning behind Joy Lacquer and how did you come up with your brand name?
We commonly hear our last name mispronounced as latcher or lacker, so
naming the polish business after that seemed to make sense. The
similarity has definitely caused tongue twisters when I say it or sign
my name.
What do you love about what you do?
I've gotten to meet hundreds of women through nail polish and working
with individuals on custom colors is my favorite part of the business.
Creating a person's vision using color as a medium, is sometimes a
challenge but its such a unique outlet, you'll never make the exact same
color twice. I absolutely love it. My other favorite part is seeing a
new collection's swatch photos. I always get so giddy, as if I haven't
been staring at those colors for months on end! But seeing different
nail art, nail shapes and all the talented women wear the colors for the
first time, is very exciting.
What are some of your hobbies or favorite pastimes?
I'm always making something. If it's not mixing polish, you'll find me
baking, marinating, sewing, painting, quilting, making scrapbooks,
costumes, stickers, decorating, playing in the garden, weeding or
digging for worms. You've got to have a worm bin for the garden and
you've got to feed them. They love apple peels!
Will
this be your first event like Indie Shop and if not what do you like
about doing events like this?
Yes, this is my first time vending at a polish event. I've been to an
indie polish event called Cocktails and Colors in Las Vegas. This was
more of a press event for table display and mingling. I met several
bloggers there that I'm now working with, so it opened up some new
relationships that turned out really well. In the recent past, I've
been to craft fairs to display handmade baby headbands, bows and knit
hats. For many years, I made soap, bath foam and candles so there were
several seasons that we displayed at holiday shows to sell those types
of things too. My mom is a sewing and beading wizard so she's usually
my counterpart at the display table.
What will you be bringing to Indie Shop and will you be offering an event exclusive for attendees?
I have two exclusives and two limited polishes. With all four, I used
Parisian inspiration. Ratatouille and But First, Champagne are the LE's
and they are for sale in the shop, and will be at the table, as well.
There was not a good colored wine pairing for Ratatouille and I'm a fan
of the bubbly anyway, so although pretty opposite, this pair worked
out. The champagne is very understated and beautiful buff color, with a
lavender shimmer. Ratatouille is a dark vampy eggplant with a red and
green shift. The others are a sapphire blue with copper and gold chrome
and holo, named after the Louvre Museum, then there's a lavender (part
of a duo with IAMCC) inspired by the Paris Opera Ballet. It's called Le
Papillon. I'm also bringing a few core colors and will reveal my
winter collection there. Available for sale later in November. As
always, I will have the hazelnut vanilla coffee sugar scrub. It's my
trademark body product and it smells suuuuper delicious. I'll have a gift with purchase and scratch tickets too.

Is there anything else that you would like people to know about you or Joy Lacquer?
Come find us in the FB group! Joyful Fingers. I've recently taken to
asking group members to swatch new colors. Even as a novice, I love to
see what nail art they come up with and I love the enthusiasm. I
recently made the first true turquoise to purple thermal polish and
named it Joyful. It sold out the first day but is back in stock, as of
just this past week. It's absolutely stunning. You don't have to be a
member of the group to purchase but you should join anyway! In
November, we're having another Custom Boutique. That's when, with the
permission of my co-creators, I take all the customs from the past
couple months and we vote on which ones to remake. There is a pre-order
window and they are offered for sale at a discounted price. Reading
the story behind the polish is a cool part about the album and it's
really fun to see what will make it in.
